Kolkata city is one of the largest cities in the eastern
India. The northern part of Kolkata city comprises of many townships
like Dakshineswar, Dum Dum, Lak e Town, Maniktala, Nager Bazar,
Shobha Bazar, Shyam Bazar and Tala. Nager Bazar forms the peripheral
region and is located at the far end in the north-east. The Shyam
Bazar and Shoba Bazar regions of the north are overhead drives to
the city. These regions exist as important commercial centres as
well as residential places. The northern part of the city is
interspersed with road links consisting of smaller roads, that
provide access into a particular township, and two trunk roads
namely Barrackpore Trunk Road and Jessore Road. The Barrackpore
Trunk Road extends beyond the frontiers in the north into the
adjoining district of Barrackpore, whereas, Jessore Road heads for
the Darjeeling in the north-east.
North Kolkata houses many important attractions and is known to
have major transport facility stations. The regions contains the
subway terminal, railway halt stations and an international airport.
Thus it forms one of the check points of the city, into the north.
Northern Kolkata throws open the gates to the city and the states
beyond Indian frontiers.
